3. What is a sheriff and how do I get to be one?

Playforia Sheriffs are special Playforia members who have volunteered to keep the gamerooms in order. Sheriffs can, amongst other things, remove troublemakers and flooders from the chatrooms.

If you are a Playforia member and believe you have what it takes to be a fair and righteous Sheriff, please fill out the application form and give us your real name, location and a detailed description of your qualities and motivation.

Only chosen applicants will be contacted personally by a private message by the Playforia Staff.

5. What competitions are going on and how can I qualify for participation?

If you have your own Playforia account you can participate in competitions. There are different events to compete in, such as gaming competitions, but also avatar and blog competitions! Some competitions are officially organised by Playforia, while others are organised by our gamers.

Official competitions

There are two types of official Playforia competitions; continuous competitions (go on/repeated forever) and single events.

You can continuously compete in (click links for more information);

Other official competitions organised are special events, which are always announced in the Playforia news. You can always find the rules and the requirements to participate in the news announcements about these events, so it's definitely worth to keep an eye on the news at all times!

Differences per country

Not every tournament exists in every Playforia country, since each country has it's own unique style, hypes and gamers. Based on this, rules, limits and prizes may vary as well.

Usually, you can only participate in competitions that are held in the Playforia country you've registered your account in. In Playforia.com we'll occasionally make an exception to this rule (if this is the case, it's always very clearly announced), since it's an international site.

Official competition organisers

In Playforia.com there is a special person who organises special events; our good friend Sparky.

He organises special events occasionally, every time with different themes and requirements. Such competitions are always announced in the news, as well as the winners.

It's definitely worth participating in these special events, because you might get the chance to win one of the very rare, special medals too!

Unofficial competitions

Competitions organised by gamers can often be found in the forum. Playforia is not responsible for competitions organised by gamers.

Nevertheless, it can be a lot of fun to take part in these. You can usually find out how to qualify for such competitions and how they work by reading their announcements in the forum.

You can also choose to make up your own rules and organise your own competition, simply go ahead and make your announcement in the forum!

Sponsorship

To encourage activity, sometimes Playforia may choose to sponsor competitions organised by gamers. If such a competition runs well and fair, Playforia may award the prizes.

Playforia does not always sponsor competitions, but if we are looking for people to organise sponsored competitions, it'll always be announced in the news.

Good luck in the tournaments!

Some people might have the problem that their avatar isn't properly displayed in the games or toplists. The avatar is then either displayed as a white and bald character, or, the picture is missing completely. Most of the time, this can be solved as follows:

  • Create and save a new character and set it as default
  • Save the old character again and set it as default.
  • Throw the new character away (if you do not wish to keep it)

However, in some cases this doesn't solve the issue. This issue is being investigated at this very moment. It is still unknown how long it will take to be solved completely. Meanwhile, we're very sorry for the inconvenience.

In such cases, the only thing the user can do is wait until the ban has expired or create a new account and behave appropriately once returned, so it does not happen again.

Friends And Gifts

1. How do I make/remove friends?

Making friends

If you have your own Playforia account, you can become friends with anyone.

Personalise your profile as much as you can, in order for your visitors to get to know you better. Go and play games and chat with the people in the chatrooms and forums. Be nice to everyone you meet and find if you have anything in common.

If you meet people you'd like to be friends with;

  • Visit their profile and click "Add friend" at the right top of the page in the menu
  • A request for friendship will be send and pending for approval

If the other person accepts the friendship, he/she is added to your friend list. You can have a maximum of 2000 friends.

Keeping track on your friends

You can easily keep track on what your friends are doing, check if they're online, see what games they're playing and what medals they've earned (and more).

The "What's happening right now" box in your profile (if it's set to display, and not hidden) tells you all about it.

Accepting/dismissing friendships

If someone wants to be your friend, you'll automatically receive a notification. You can then either choose to accept or dismiss the request. You can do this in the friend menu by clicking the friend icon in your personal box on the right top of the page, or by going to your profile friends page.

Removing friends

If you want to remove someone from your friend list;

  • Go to your profile and select "Friends" from the dropdown menu on the left top
  • An overview of all your friends (and aspiring friends) will be displayed
  • Click the trash bin icon on the right of the person you wish to remove, you will be asked for confirmation
  • In this menu you're also able to accept and/or dismiss friendship requests

2. How do I buy a gift for my friend?

You can easily buy Avatar Shop items and other products as a gift for anyone in Playforia;

  • Visit the profile of the friend you want to give a gift to
  • Click "Gift Shop" on the right top of the page
  • Pick the product you want to give away
  • Select your gift wrapping
  • Add a personal message
  • Click "Give a gift!"

Your friend will get a notification when your gift is received.

Use only after opening

The item can only be taken in use once the gift has been opened. Before this, it's not available in the settings.

When you receive a gift you automatically get a notification. You can open your gift as follows;

  • Go to your profile
  • Click "Gifts" from the menu on the top right
  • Click the unopened gift (written in bold, preceding with an envelope icon)
  • Drag the lid off the gift box
  • The item and the message from the sender will be displayed
  • You can now start using the item

No gifts for free coins

Unfortunately, if you only own free coins, it's not possible to buy gifts for others. However, after your first coin purchase in the shop, the limitation of these free coins will be lifted, so the free coins can be used to pay for anything throughout the services.

3. Where can I find the Star League gifts I've won?

When you climb higher in the Star League, you also win special Star League items, such as profile box themes and backgrounds, gadgets and avatar items.

If you can't find your Star League items, make sure you've first opened the presents (this counts for all items you receive as gifts)!

  • Go to your profile and click "Gifts"
  • Find the gift from Playforia Staff in the list and click it
  • Drag the lid off the gift box to reveil the present
  • The item is now available for use

Games

1. Game and chat rules

Quite obviously, our games are our biggest treasure. We have a passion for creating cool games, add a lot of fun around it and share it with the world. We'd like to emphasise the word fun, because you can make all the difference!

Keep things fun and fair

The chatrooms in the games are here for you to talk with your fellow gamers and get to know them. In our game rooms everyone should behave appropriately, follow the rules and treat one another with mutual respect. Don't spoil the fun!

Code of Conduct

In the games, as anywhere else in our services, the Code of Conduct applies. Breaking any of these rules is strictly prohibited.

Report bullying and abuse

To report any occurrence of abuse or other inappropriate behaviour, please send an Abuse Report to our Customer Support. If someone behaves inappropriately, this person can be removed and/or banned from the room.

Never answer inappropriate behaviour with shouting or cursing or any other form of inappropriate behaviour! Click here for more information about what to do if someone is harrassing you (or others).

2. Do I have to pay money in order to play games?

Absolutely not! Almost all Playforia games can be played for free. You can even create your own Playforia account for free and enjoy access to many (free) extra features. It's definitely worth a try!

Some extras may require a couple of Playforia coins to access, however, if you have created your own Playforia account, you can compete to win coins. Besides, it's up to you to decide if you want to access these extra features or not.

Advantages of a Playforia account

3. How do I play this game?

Playforia games aren't too complicated. We'd like to create games that are easy to learn, so you can start playing right away.

Instructions about how to play the games are usually displayed below, or, inside each game. You can also check out all the game instructions here »

4. What is ranking and how does it work?!

If you have a created your own Playforia account, you automatically work on your Playforia rank when gaming. The better you are at playing games, the higher your rank.

Your rank can be recognised from the ranking icon next to your nickname in the gamerooms and on your profile. Below the gamerooms, the different ranking icons are defined.

Check out the ranking info page »

How it works

Many users often wonder how it is possible to lose points while not having lost any games from other players recently. Here are some answers to this question. It is, however, not always possible to give a concrete answer, since there are so many factors involved in the Ranking formula.

The usual answer is: "The formula of the Ranking system is rather complex, your Ranking isn't a result of simply extracting your amount of lost games from your wins."

Check out the ranking formula »

Below, some related questions and answers:

a. Which factors influencing Ranking?

  • Your own experience (presented by your Ranking points) and the experience of your opponent. More info here.
  • A high quit rate (leaving the game while it hasn't been finished) has a negative influence on your Ranking.
  • If you don't play for a longer period your Ranking will drop slowly.

b. My Ranking has dropped, is it possible this is due to an error?

It hardly ever happens, but it can happen, that the Ranking system crashes. If a server problem appears it is possible that the Ranking of roughly all players may be displayed as 0. The points, however, have not been lost, they are just temporarily out of display. There is no need to send a feedback message about this. The best thing to do is to wait until everything is up and running normally again.

When you drop to a certain amount of points, this is due to the factors that influence Ranking (give above) and there is no error in the system. The exact same formula is applied to each and every player without exeption.

c. My Ranking has dropped, while I just won some games. How is this possible?

It takes a while before the results of your gaming have been taken into your Ranking. It is possible that your Ranking drops because the lost games played a while back finally influence your Ranking, while the games you have just won have not yet been taken into account.

If server problems occur, it is possible that the results will be taken into your Ranking with a couple of hours or days delay. No gaming result is lost. All results will be applied to your Ranking. However, patience is required.

If your Ranking is very high, and you win a game, it's possible that your Ranking may drop in spite of the victory, since the difference with the Ranking of your opponent is extremely high. This way Professionals are prevented to boost their Ranking by frequently beating the weaker players, which prevents cheating as well.

d. What happens to my Ranking if I lose from a guest player?
Nothing happens to your game Ranking. The game is saved and it's displayed in the statistics, but your Ranking doesn't change. Since it's unknown how much experience the guest player has.

e. How come my Playforia Ranking is displayed incorrectly in the games?

Keep in mind that in each game your particular Ranking of that very game is displayed. In case it's possible to play multiple games from one place, fe. in the lobby of Classic Games, your general Ranking of all games available in Classic Games is displayed. However, if you play a game, you get to see the icon matching the Ranking you got from that game only. Your Ranking displayed on the front page of your personal pages, is your General Ranking, your average Ranking of all multiplayer games available.

In case of updates to the site, it is possible your computer still includes old data. A cache is a place to store something temporarily. The files you automatically request by looking at a Web page are stored on your hard disk in a cache subdirectory under the directory for your browser. When you return to a page you've recently visited, the browser can load it from the cache rather than the original server. This saves time and saves the network the burden of some additional traffic. This can cause the browser to include outdated data. If your Playforia Ranking is not displayed correctly, it might help to empty your cache completely and restart your browser. The way to do this depends on the type of browser you are using.

If you use Internet Explorer you can do the following: Go to Tools >> Internet Options >> tab General >> Browsing history >> Delete.

f. Does my ranking have any influence on my spot in the Star League?

The ranking system and the Star League are two totally different things to compete in. While ranking is purely based on your gaming prestations, the Star League is based on the medals you have earned, and, medals can be earned anywhere in the services, not just in the games.

5. What do I do when someone is cheating in the games?

Send a report

If you suspect someone of cheating, please send a message to our Customer Support. Do note that our public areas, such as the chatrooms, the forum and guestbooks aren't meant to accuse others of cheating.

Definition of cheating

The following acts, and/or any variations of these, are regarded as cheating on Playforia:

  • Settled games / in prior deciding the winner of a game (letting one or the other person win intentionally)
  • Playing against oneself or someone from the same household or other users from the same IP address (either with multiple of your own or other's accounts)
  • Ganging up against others (fe. two players against one in a game of three)
  • Using the game for the mere purpose of transferring/selling chips/coins to other accounts
  • Allowing someone else to play with your account or playing with someone elses account (sharing passwords or other private data is illegal)
  • Moving faster than normal (in Bombermania)
  • Using any kind of cheating software
  • Any other form of unfair/dishonest gaming

Consequences

The Playforia has a zero tolerance policy about cheating in the games.

The account of a cheater can be banned, or, even totally deleted from the services without prior notice and without any refunds. The cheater's ranking, statistics and medals may be deleted as well.

Once someone has been found cheating and measures have been taken, the decision is final and can not be corresponded about.

In such cases, the only thing the user can do is wait until the ban has expired, or, create a new account and behave appropriately once returned, so it does not happen again.

Keep it fun, keep it fair!

6. What is a browser, which one do I use and which version?

A web browser is the program (fe. Internet Explorer, Firefox, Opera or Safari) that you use to "browse" the Internet, which is the program you are using at this very moment to view this page!

Before you begin resolving your game issue, it would be good to know which web browser you use, and, if possible, which version it is.

Define your browser (version)

You can find out the name and version of your browser by choosing "Help" from the menu bar and selecting "About".

This opens a window which will display your browser's name and version.

The best browsers for Playforia

Keep your browser up to date

As internet and browsers develop, Playforia develops along. Therefore, it's important to always have the newest version of your browser installed and keep your browser (and plug-ins) up to date. Older browsers often generate errors or just get stuck when loading the newest technologies.

If you want to make sure you've installed the latest version of your browser, check your browser's help functions to check for updates, or go to your browsers's website to download and install the latest version. You can also adjust your browser's settings to check for updates automatically.

9. How do I clear my browser/Java cache?

Sometimes you get to see the error message "Version error? Clear your browser cache and restart your browser.". This message may sometimes show up while starting a game.

This is caused by your computer storing an old version of the game you are about to start playing. The site can, in such cases, display an error (incorrect password/nickname) while attempting to login

13. How come the sound doesn't work and how can I fix it?

Is your situation as follows?

While running certain applets no sound is played. This happens often while using a game applet. This error occurs while executing the applet with Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 5.0 and 5.0 Update 1 (of 1.5.0 en 1.5.0_01).

This is caused by an error in JRE and has been solved in JRE 5.0 Update 2.

Determine and solve as follows;

  • Check which JRE you're using by visiting the applet test
  • If the result shows that you are using a Java version that is older than Java JRE 5.0 Update 2.
  • Download the newest Java and install it

14. How come my purchased game time has suddenly expired?

If you buy game time for a game, note that the time starts from the moment of purchase and continues to count down in real time (no matter whether you play the game or are logged in to Playforia or not).

You can see how much game time you have left in your profile settings in the "Play Time" box.

15. How come I can't chat?

It might be that you're logged in as a guest or that your Playforia account hasn't been confirmed yet (click here for more info at step 4), or, you might have entered a gameroom that doesn't allow chatting (silent mode).

It might also be that you don't have a Java/Flash plugin installed/enabled (click here for more info).

16. I've made a new record, why doesn't it appear in the ranking/top lists?

Your records will only be saved if you have your own Playforia account. You can find your records in your personal game statistics, which you can access in your profile.

The record lists might take a moment to update, as well as the records listed inside the games (loggin out and back in and/or emptying your cache might help - more info).

Reasons why your record might not have been registered:

  1. You're not logged in with your Playforia account.
  2. In some cases it requires you to play only in the Playray language you've registered you're account in (fe. the Best of the Day competition and ranking)
  3. Server disconnection; some internet connections are rather slow and some could get disconnected every once in a while. When this happens this usually isn't noticable while surfing websites, but applets like the games need a continuous connection to function optimally. If the connection is lost, the game server might not register your record. Because this problem lies between the router of the user and the computer or the internet provider, we are, unfortunately, not able to solve this problem.
  4. You might experience technical issues with your Java/Flash plugin, they're not properly enabled or installed, and might require a reinstal (click here for more info).
17. Why is the number of games in my profile statistics box different than the number of games in my actual full game statistics page?

The number of games that is displayed in your profile statistics box is based on the total games you're played from the beginning of Playforia. The number of games displayed in your full game statistics page is counted from the moment we started collecting game statistics (in about 2008).

Therefore, if you've been on Playforia for over two years, it's possible that the number in your profile statistics box might be higher than the one on your full game statistics page.

18. How do I clear my game statistics?

You can clear your gaming statistics as follows;

  • Go to your profile and click "Settings" on the right top
  • Scroll down to "Clear your gaming statistics"
  • Click "Clear gaming history"
  • Check the checkbox, enter your password and click "Remove Gaming Statistics"
  • A confirmation email will be send to you
  • To confirm, please click the link provided in the email
  • Your gaming statistics will be erased around midnight (UTC)

Clearing your gaming history permanently deletes all gaming statistics, ranking and history of all multiplayer games (except Bombermania) associated with the user account. The singleplayer game statistics can not be erased. Do note that such action can not be undone.

You can only clear your gaming statistics once every 30 days.

1. What is a gallery and how do I find mine?

If you have your own Playforia nickname, you can post comments to people's images in their galleries (if you haven't been blocked from the gallery).

Before writing comments in anyone's gallery, do note that this is a family site and use appropriate language. Once you've posted your comment, you can not remove it, so treat one another with mutual respect and make sure not to write anything you might regret later!

Here's how to post a comment;

  • Go to the image you want to comment on
  • Below the image in "Comments", click the text link "Add new comment"

Medals And Star League

1. What are medals?

If you've created your own Playforia account, you can start earning medals right away. Medals aren't just another game playing feature; you can earn medals anywhere in Playforia! They can be earned in three different categories;

  • Games (to be earned by playing games)
  • Social (to be earned by social activity)
  • Unique (to be earned during special events).

Do note that the social medals require unique numbers to be awarded. Your profile statistics box doesn't count by unique numbers, and might display higher numbers than your social medals display. Fe. the "5 (Unique) Visitors" medal does require that your profile is visited by 5 different people, and thus, 5 visits from the same person will only be counted as 1 unique visitor, even though the number of "profile views" in your profile statistics box will go up by 5.

Different Types

Within these categories, there are two types of medals; skill medals and grind medals.

A skill medal can be earned by displaying some special skills, fe. shooting a hole in one, or some other precise/unique task.

A grind medal is based on stamina and develops when executing a repetitive task, fe. playing 1 game, playing 5 games, playing 10 games etcetera. For executing the requirements and the more often you repeat the specific task, you'll get the same medal - but then one of a a higher level. So, it definitely pays off to stubbornly keep on playing the games, even if your skills are not quite at the top!

Special Medals

There are hidden medals you could earn as well. These are awarded as a surprise based on luck, not just skills! Additionally, we might grant you special medals for extraordinary actions on Playforia, fe. having a gorgeous avatar, or being a great, high quality forum or blog writer or poet.

Earning Medals

In the medal overview you can also see which medals are within your reach and what you have to do in order get them.

Once you've earned a new medal, you'll get notified right away. You can check out the latest medals you've earned on your profile in the Star League box, or, check out all medals  you've earned in your profile (select "Medals" in the dropdown menu on the left top).

Below the games, you can see the medals that you have earned before, plus the medals that are closest to your reach.

By earning medals you collect star points as well and automatically participate in the Star League.

Medals can not be given away. They are totally personal and, most of all, fun!

2. How do I win medals in Best of the Day competitions?

You can earn Best of the Day medals (as well as Playforia coins) by playing our most popular games. Every day, the top three players of each participating game will be rewarded.

Check out the Best of the Day page for more information about the competitions and which games to play.

Do note that you can only participate in the Best of the Day competition in the Playforia language you've created your account in.

Additionally, the threshold to get Best of the Day medals increases once you earn more medals. This means that after you've won 5 or 6 medals, you may have to wait until you've been the Best of the Day 10 times until you receive your next medal (so, you don't get a medal every time you become the best of the day).

For more details about which Best of the Day medals you have and what you need to do in order to get the next medal, visit your medal page (make sure you're logged in). The info about how many times you need to win in order to get the next medal is always displayed with the info of your latest achieved medal of that game.

If you think you haven't received the Best of the Day medal you rightfully earned, it might help to empty your browser cache and delete your browser cookies (click here for more info). Very rarely, it's possible that there is a delay in the awarding system of max. a few days.

3. What are star points?

The number of star points you collect represents your activity and skills and defines your position in the Star League.

You can collect star points by earning medals. The number of star points you get for each medal varies. In general, the harder it is to get the medal, the more star points it's worth.

The more star points you collect, the higher you climb in the Star League. To keep your star score up, you'll have to make sure you stay active, as everyone is working hard to beat you!

The Star League system should not be confused with Playforia ranking.

4. What is the Star League?

Join the competition and all the fun!

The Playforia Star League is a gamers league. It's easy and fun and everyone all over the world can join in to compete!

Earn all the medals you can get by playing games and by performing other special activities, such as logging in or spending time online. Stay alert and active, there's always something new to gain.

9. How do I spice up my messages and texts?

Whether you're writing your profile description, posting blog entries or posting messages anywhere else in Playforia (forum, guestbooks, galleries, private messages), there are many options available for you to define the look of your text.

You can use the simple options in the text editing menu below the messages for this, or, for more advanced looks, you can use BB-codes.

BB-codes

BB-codes are used to format your text. They are easy to learn and offer you a range of text formatting options.

By using BB-codes, you can add/define (click links for more info);

BB-code tags should always be opened and closed:

  • [??]text[/??]

Whenever you want to format a word (or multiple words), you enclose it between two nearly identical tags - the only difference being that the latter tag must ALWAYS contain a forward slash (/). The first BB tag tells us "this formatting style starts here" while the latter one with the forward slash means "this formatting style ends here".

Note! Changing the colour, font type and font size does not work on our forum. You can still use them elsewhere, though.

Text styles

You can apply different styles to your text as follows;

  • Select the word(s) you want to style
  • Click the B (for bold), I (for italic) or U (for underline) icon from the text editing menu below your message
  • The BB-code to create the is automatically inserted in your message

You can also use BB-codes directly, which give you a couple more options;

  • [b]bold[/b]
  • [i]italic[/i]
  • [u]underline[/u]
  • [s]stroke[/s]
  • [sup]superscript[/sup]
  • [sub]subscript[/sub]
  • [acronym="descriptive text"]keyword[/acronym]

The acronym tag displays the descriptive text when hovering with the mouse on top of the keyword. This can be useful if you want to keep your text short, but still want to explain a little extra for people who might needed.

Font size

You can change the size of your text by using the BB-code size tag;

  • [size=10]Font size 10[/size]
  • [size=15]Font size 15[/size]
  • [size=20]Font size 20[/size]

The value of the size tag can be any number from 7 to 25.

Font type

You can change the type of your text by using the BB-code font tag;

  • [font=arial]Arial[/font]
  • [font=courier]Courier[/font]
  • [font=verdana]Verdana[/font]
  • [font=comic]Comic[/font]

Keep in mind that not all fonts work on all computers, so you may want to only use standard fonts.

Text colour

You can change define the colour of your text by using the BB-code color tag. You can define a colour by using one of the English colour terms below, or, use hexadecimal RGB codes if you are familiar with those.

Colour terms:

black, brown, maroon, red, orange, yellow, olive, lime, green, teal, aqua, blue, navy, purple, fuchsia, gray, silver, white

Hexadecimal RGB codes (some examples):

  • #000000 (black)
  • #ffffff (white)
  • #0000ff (blue)

Some examples of color tags:

  • [color=blue]this text is blue[/color]
  • [color=#0000ff]this text is also blue[/color]

If you're using hexadecimal RGB codes, always remember to start the code with the # symbol.

Links

You can add a link to your text as follows;

  • Select the word(s) you want to link
  • Click the globe icon in the text editing menu below your message
  • Enter the http address (url) of the page you want to link to
  • Press "OK"

You can also add links to email addresses using the email-tag, of which the code might look as follows:

  • [email]myemail@emailprovider.com[/email]
  • [email=myemail@emailprovider.com]link to email address[/email]

Text alignment

The align BB tag can be used to define how text is positioned on the page.

  • [align=left]this text is positioned to the left[/align]
  • [align=right]this text is positioned to the right[/align]
  • [align=center]this text is centered[/align]
  • [align=justify]this text is justified[/align]
  • [indent]this text has an indent[/indent]

Quotations

If you want to quote someone else on the forum, for example to refer to a point they made earlier, click the "Quote" button below the message, and a new message will open for you. You can use BB-codes directly.

The BB-code might look something like this:

  • [quote]this is a quotation[/quote]

On the forum, you can also give the quote a title.

  • [quote title="this is the title of this quote"]this is a quotation[/quote]

Images

You can add an image to your text as follows;

  • Click the photo icon in the text editing menu below your message
  • Enter the http address (url) of the image
  • Press "OK"
  • The BB-code to create the image is automatically inserted in your message

The BB-code might look something like this:

  • [img]http://www.playforia.com/community/user/nickname/gallery/view/image.jpg[/img]
  • [img]http://www.host.com/folder/image.jpg[/img]

Just make sure the address you include inside the img tags starts with http:// and points to an actual image (in JPG, PNG or GIF format). Don't forget that it's common courtesy not to link to images on other people's servers - only link to images YOU have uploaded to YOUR gallery, image host or web server.

Lists

You can also add lists, the BB-code will look something like this;

  • [list]
    [*]first list item
    [*]second list item
    [*]third list item
    [/list]

Code

There's one more tag might be useful in certain situations - the code tag. Whatever is written within code tags is shown as-is: multiple white spaces are not truncated to just one; BB-codes you write are not used to format the text between them, and so forth.

Use the text editing menu below your message and click # and write your code inbetween the BB-code tags that appear in your message field.

The BB-code might look something like this:

  • [code]
    this
    text
    will appear
    just like it is
    written
    [/code]

Special characters and smilies

Smilies are another way to express oneself. You can add a smiley or other emoticon as follows;

  • Clicking the smiley icon in the text editing menu below your message
  • Clicking the icon of your choice
  • The BB-code to create the smiley is automatically inserted in your message

You can also use BB-codes directly, fe :) ->

Special characters, such as the heart symbol ♥, can be entered in as well;

  • Keep the ALT key on your keyboard pressed while entering the ASCII code number with your numpad (the separate set of number keys at the right end of your keyboard)
  • When you release the ALT key, the symbol is entered

Here are some examples of ASCII codes (more can be found on the internet);

  • ALT + 1 and ALT + 2 = white and black smileys ☺☻
  • ALT + 3 and ALT + 5 = heart and clover ♥ ♣
  • ALT + 13 and ALT + 14 = music notation ♪ ♫
  • ALT + 127 = house shaped pentagon ⌂

Note that some special characters do not work on our forums.

Combinations

BB-code tags can also be combined. Don't forget that every tag has to be closed ("[/tag]"). A good way to close tags is to do it in the reverse order from which they were entered;

  • [color=blue][size=15][b]Bold, blue, 15![/b][/size][/color]
  • [url=http://www.playforia.com]=)[/url] ->
